The Start of a King

Zeus was the youngest of 6 children (Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia and Poseidon) born from Cronus and Rhea. Cronus would swallow his offspring after they were born since he was told by Gaia and Uranus he would one day be overthrown by one of his own. Rhea sough Gaia for help and together devised a plan to save Zeus. Rhea gave birth in a cave in Crete and handed Cronus a rock wrapped in a babies blanket which he quickly swallowed. From then on it is most commonly thought that Gaia raised Zeus. Another story is that a nymph named Melissa raised him feeding him goats milk and honey. Once he reached adulthood he took on his father and sliced his stomach open freeing his brothers and sisters.

King of The Gods

Zeus was the king of the gods or also know as "the father of the gods and men" in Greek mythology. He is son of the Rhea and the Titan Cronus, and the youngest of his siblings. So how did he become King of the Gods? He led his brothers and sister along with The Gigantes, Cyclops, and Hecatonchires to victory over the Titans vanquishing them and sent to an underworld region known as Tartarus. The battle is known as Titanomachy. After the battle Zeus and his brothers shared the world; Zeus had the sky and the air, Poseidon the ocean, and Hades got the Underworld. The only Titan to stay was Gaia the ancient Earth (Mother Nature). She could not be claimed, but she was angry to how the Titans were treated as she was their Mother. Some of Gaias other children soon went to battle against Zeus with no success. He then married to Hera who is also his sister. They gave birth to Ares,Hebe, and Hephaestus. But Zeus's promiscuous nature is what made him famous. Many myths say Hera was very jealous. At some point a nymph named Echo was put to distract Hera from Zeus's wild encounters by talking excessively, but when Hera found out she cursed Echo to repeat the words of others (thus today's meaning of an echo). Zeus fathered many divine and semi-divine children from about 3 dozen different women. Kinda makes scence why he was called "the father of the gods and men".

Very good. I enjoyed this hub. Mythology is a great study of mine. Zeus would also take the form of gentle creatures to seduce some of those women. Keep up the good work.
